« Mettre tous ses œufs dans le même panier, c’est ça le problème de l’artiste ardent »
Ryslavy’s work is notoriously difficult to pin down, and its ephemeral nature has meant that he has been largely neglected by contemporary art history. Many accounts of his practice privilege personality, emphasising his legendary hospitality, social grace and unbridled creativity, a tendency fed by the sad circumstance of his early registration as a certified wine importer at the age of 29. The large residence at the edge of Brussel’s city centre takes its own place of capriciousness and dominance within his oeuvre.
The performance he will propose on February 15th turns the putatively weightiness of contemporary art down to zero. A simple sculptural act of language adaption by claiming the help of the Syrian refugee Shadan Alhamwi.
