Deeply, Madly : preview screening and talk with Helen Anna Flanagan

Deeply, Madly by Helen Anna Flanagan: PREVIEW SCREENING AND CONVERSATION WITH THE ARTIST
03.09.2022 –  16:00
CENTRALE | atelier
Place Sainte-Catherine 44, 1000 Brussels

Deeply, Madly offers characters a sense of weightlessness by defying gravity and temporarily elevating and distorting perceptions. Bodies become abstracted floating forms that bob quietly up-and-down. Young excitable shapes suddenly jolt and splash from diving boards like bombs. The ocean from afar rolls in on itself and dances back-and-forth with tidal compulsion. Ice-cubes melt in tall glasses and merge with their watery surroundings in forced camaraderie. A tear-duct encourages a wet eye to burst, leaving a small snail trail of relief on a sunburnt cheek. Deeply, Madly is an obsession with bodies, emotions, time, and all that succumbs to gravitational forces — from the lovesick, to the slapstick, to the macabre.

As part of her exhibition at CENTRALE | lab (28.04 > 18.09.2022), Helen Anna Flanagan is premiering the entire new film Deeply, Madly. This full version of the film was shot and edited as a work-in-progress from February to August 2022.

The screening will take place at CENTRALE | atelier on Saturday 03.09.2022 at 4pm, followed by a conversation between the artist and the curator of the project.

The film will then be shown at CENTRALE | lab until 18.09.2022 as part of the exhibition of the same name, including an installation, watercolours and more.
