Anne-Françoise Jacques
matières en suspension, 2017
(1980, Montreal (Canada), lives and works in Montreal)
Anne-Françoise Jacques creates animated mechanisms, drawing on the acoustic properties of their materials and objects. These small, and sometimes large, machines are grouped in the space according to different parameters (speed, texture, height, friction, contact between various surfaces) and configurations to create an audio-visual composition in the space that is never the same. What we see, however, corresponds to what we hear. The assemblages are absurd, disconcerting, fascinating, as are the circular movements, the changes of velocity, the slow-downs or frantic shifts that animate these funny-looking sound sculptures. The elements of the suspended material perform in solos, duos or trios, with no regard for the visitor.

Martin Tétreault
Graphic Varispeed, 2014-20..
(1957, Montreal (CA), lives and works in Montreal)
A work-in-progress, Graphic Varispeed is a colla-boration involving Martin Tétreault, dieb13 and Dieter Kovacic, a Viennese artist and DJ who makes his own vinyl records. The project started in March 2014, when Tétreault and Kovacic were touring Europe. Dieter first handed Martin a record of his music, which he himself had recorded. Martin made a vinyl print with wood glue (using a technique he developed himself). On the next day, as soon as it was dry, he gave it back to Dieter. Back in Vienna, Dieter made a vinyl recording of this print and returned it by mail to Martin. And so on. Since then, the two artists have been exchanging vinyl and glue records by mail. By the spring of 2017, twelve versions had been created. Tétreault and dieb13 have not yet set a copy or duration limit for this postal exchange, this four-handed process of printing, listening and recording. And who knows, they may never set one.
