Fighting the box

For the first time, La Centrale électrique, European Centre for Contemporary Art of the City of Brussels will open its doors to design!
During the summer, La Centrale électrique will welcome a very original exhibition. FIGHTING THE BOX will reveal the creative process of 20 Belgian designers working with 20 international companies. On the one hand, the product as such will be shown – finished, manufactured, ready for using. On the other, the public will discover the different stages of development of the project, based on the first intentions of the designers. Drafts and drawings, three dimensional studies and scale models will help to decode the language proper to each designer confronted with the constraints of serial production. A story of the Object, from the uniqueness of an idea to the design for collective usage.
Industrial design is a complicated alchemy between fact and dream, technology and invention, necessity and desire, between personal challenges, production process and social context; it is a permanent “fighting” that we invite you to discover.
The reciprocity between the creative idea and the industrial production is the challenge of this exhibition.
