The yarn<\/em> is the starting point of these workshops. It is as much the yarn of life, which evokes the intimate and the everyday, as well as the yarn used in the craft industry and referring to the (art) object. Finally, in a more abstract way, the yarn represents history and narration.<\/p>\n

During these workshops, intended for people of all ages, we will explore yarn in all its forms, both literally and figuratively. Thus, we will work with yarn in beginner workshops offering embroidery, bookbinding, macram\u00e9, weaving and sculpture.<\/p>\n

Through these techniques we teach in the workshops, we will be able to delve deeper into concepts covered in the exhibition, such as the everyday object and its reappropriation, techniques traditionally associated with craftsmanship in the service of contemporary creation, but also the inner life and our emotions.<\/p>\n

12 January 2022 – Bookbinding<\/strong>
\nIn this workshop, we will make our own notebook and its binding. The participants will be invited to write a short story about their everyday life.<\/p>\n

26 January<\/del> 2 February 2022 \u2013 Embroidery<\/strong>
\nAn embroidery workshop during which participants will be introduced to the technique of embroidery on fabric and during which they will be able to embroider an outline of a (precious) object from their everyday life.<\/p>\n

9 February 2022 – Weaving
\n<\/strong>Participants will be introduced to the technique of weaving by making their own loom and creating a small piece of weaving.<\/p>\n

23 February 2022 – Macram\u00e9<\/strong>
\nParticipants can choose to make macram\u00e9 bracelets or an individual piece. Alternatively, thanks to the many possibilities macram\u00e9 offers, they may decide to create a collective work.<\/p>\n

9 March 2022 \u2013 Wire Sculpture
\n<\/strong>Participants will create a wire sculpture around the theme of the body.<\/p>\n

Artist\u2019s bio
\n<\/strong>Mathilde Mayen<\/a> has a Master’s degree in illustration from the Ghent School of Arts, St Lucas, and a Bachelor’s degree in graphic design from the ESA Saint-Luc in Brussels. Mathilde draws on her everyday life for inspiration, which she tries to sublimate and dream about. Her images are mainly created on the basis of photos taken with her phone, sketches or paper collages. She likes to use manual printing techniques, such as engraving and silk-screening, but has also tried her hand at more recent techniques such as risograph printing. Lately, she is interested in new artistic techniques inspired by crafts. After obtaining her teaching diploma in visual and spatial arts at the Beaux-Arts de Bruxelles, Mathilde has also worked as an arts teacher. Today, she continues to run workshops and artistic courses for people of all ages.
