Happy Heads – Love Songs – Benoit+Bo

A project of Benoit+Bo in collaboration with CENTRALE for contemporary art

16.03 > 03.04.2020</del>

ULB, Campus Solbosch, Avenue Paul Héger

The festival BLC – Bruxelles Libre Culture, dedicated to cultural diversity, is organized on the Solbosch campus of the ULB (Université Libre de Bruxelles) during the month of March. Both street art, cinema, architecture, sculpture, photography, painting, music, dance and theater are put in the spotlight. Every weekday, various permanent and punctual activities will take place in different corners of the university.

CENTRALE for contemporary art, partner of the festival BLC, offers a special programming, in collaboration with artists duo Benoit+Bo

The voice is artificial, it speaks words of love from popular songs without any emotion; the heads are artificial, their smile is frozen. It is a very new and modern way of expressing feelings, just like when you send a message on the phone saying “I love you”; or even when you send an emoji that is supposed to express your love: it’s very artificial.

Franco-Chinese artist duo Benoit+Bo places locations, territories, landscapes and memories at the heart of their artistic research. They create a new contemporary perception of space-time by combining them with our sensations and our cultural imagination, a subjective mapping.

Created in 2002, the duo became Benoit+Bo / 東波西波 in 2005 to create an art-synthesis between East and West. Using various mediums, they draw their imagination from Chinese mythology and popular art to make us dream of a better, diverse world. Juggling between transformation and hybridization, the artists also exploit the urban territory, asking the question of the visible and the symbolic. They stage the new physiognomy of cities; places of exchange, integration, emergence and disappearance of borders.

Enriched by numerous travels, their artistic performance offers a poetic vision of a transformed and re-imagined world.
