Prendre coutume<\/em> \u2013 Que viennent faire les deuilleurs en cette affaire\u00a0?<\/em> brings a voice and a temporal dimension to the exhibitions of the same name. It returns in the footsteps of an ancestor, borrows the same paths to wonder about the transmission in a country of oral tradition, New Caledonia. Practices and objects of the Kanak custom are described through several testimonies punctuated by crossings through the mining landscape producing an imagery out of time, suspended.<\/span><\/p>\n

St\u00e9phanie Mahieu is a professor at the ESAD (\u00c9cole Sup\u00e9rieure d\u2019Art et de Design) in Valenciennes. She holds a Ph.D. in Social Anthropology (EHESS Paris 2003), and a MA in Social Sciences (ULB Brussels 1995). After her PhD, Dr Mahieu held postdoctoral positions at the Max Planck Institute for Social Anthropology, Halle (Saale), at the European University Institute in Florence and at the Centro de Estudios Pol\u00edticos y Constitucionales in Madrid. She has been working as a museum curator at the Mus\u00e9e National de l’Histoire de l’Immigration (Paris), in charge of Ethnological Collections, and was the head of the Exhibition Department at the Albert Kahn Museum ((Boulogne-Billancourt). Her publications include the co-edited (with Vlad Naumescu) book Churches In-Between.
